Hayco Construction raises steel on Allegacy's new financial center in Hickory
The 3,800-square-foot branch was expected to open in July 2026. Allegacy now says it will open early in the fourth quarter.
Allegacy has served Hickory from a limited-service office since February 2025. Now the Winston-Salem credit union is building a financial center there, and in April 2026 the steel went up.
Hayco Construction, the Pilot Mountain contractor building the 3,800-square-foot Hickory Financial Center on U.S. 321, posted on April 20 that the foundation was set. "Foundation is set, columns are rising, and we're just getting started," the company wrote.
Allegacy says the Hickory center will offer personal banking, small business and commercial banking, and wealth management. Its Hickory page also lists interactive teller machines, which connect members with Allegacy staff from their car.
The opening date has moved. Allegacy broke ground in March 2026, according to an April 6 release that described the ceremony as taking place "last month." That release said the center was expected to open in July. Allegacy's Hickory page now says the branch will open early in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Hayco has worked for Allegacy before. Its project list includes interior renovations for the credit union finished in summer 2018 and the interior upfit of a relocated Mocksville location finished in winter 2022.
For Nathanael Tarwasokono, Allegacy's president and chief executive, the project is personal. "I was raised in Lenoir, and to lead Allegacy's expansion into Catawba County and western North Carolina is especially meaningful to me," Tarwasokono said in the groundbreaking release.
