Family-run Surry Port A John rents portable toilets across four counties and Virginia
Kim Jones, named as founder on the company's website, writes that the Pilot Mountain business started as a way to work more flexible hours. In a 2024 federal filing, it reported two trucks and two drivers.
Surry Port A John rents portable toilets for construction sites, farms and weddings out of Pilot Mountain. Kim Jones, named on the company's website as its founder, writes that the business "started as a small local venture to allow me to work with more flexible hours with our 3rd child."
The same family has run the company since 2019, according to its website. A Better Business Bureau profile lists Kim Jones as president and co-owner and Brent Jones as co-owner. Its contact page lists the service area as Surry, Stokes, Yadkin and Davie counties, Winston-Salem, surrounding areas and Virginia.
Every rental comes with upkeep. The company says each one includes weekly pumping, cleaning and restocking. Customers choose among standard portable toilets, deluxe units with a sink inside, units the company describes as compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and hand wash stations.
Construction sites get more. A freshwater tank with a pump supplies water to the toilets and sinks in office trailers. A 250-gallon holding tank, the company says, is meant for long-term restroom areas or overflow.
The company says its customers include contractors, event organizers, towns and public works departments, farms, and people holding weddings and family gatherings.
In a federal motor carrier filing dated March 13, 2024, the company reported two trucks, two drivers and 50,000 miles driven in 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's public carrier record.
The about page tells the company's story in a single sentence. The business "was acquired in 2019 by a local mom aiming to serve her community while staying close to her family."
