Marks Clearing & Grading has named Justin Smith vice president of asset management, putting him in charge of the company's equipment fleet and shop.
Smith has decades of fleet experience, according to the company. He describes his approach bluntly: "Treat the shop like an emergency room. Every day is triage." In practice, the company said, that means fixing whatever is stopping production first and building preventive routines so the next breakdown doesn't happen.
Marks said the role matters more as it grows, because a larger fleet spread over more jobsites makes every hour of downtime more expensive.
Smith joins a leadership team that has expanded this year, including the hiring of Morgan Beam as vice president of business development.
