Marks Clearing & Grading is on the Triangle Business Journal's Fast 50 again. The company did not say where.
The Wendell sitework contractor announced the 2026 list in its newsroom on Sept. 25. It is the second year in a row. Last year it said it placed No. 6. This year's post has no rank, and no growth figure.
A second year, the company wrote, means the growth is holding, and that it shows up in the field: more crews, more equipment, more turnkey sitework for builders and developers. Clearing, grading, underground utilities, curb and paving, done with its own people.
It also pointed at the bench. This year Tim Clay became chief executive. Gregg Marks moved to executive chairman and chief growth officer. John Dodd, Justin Fanning, Morgan Beam and Justin Smith came in as vice presidents of commercial operations, commercial estimating, business development and asset management.
"We think that's the real story in this one. Growing fast is hard. Building the leadership to carry that growth without losing what makes Marks, Marks, is harder," the company wrote. That, it said, is the part it has been most deliberate about.
The photo with the post, Marks said, is that leadership team. The award has one name on it. The company says it also belongs to the operators, foremen, superintendents, project managers, estimators, mechanics, the shop and fleet team, the support staff, and the clients and partners who keep calling.
