Marks Clearing & Grading keeps building roads at Durham's Avalon with residents in place

Families are already living at one end of Avalon, a Durham community built by Meritage Homes, Marks Clearing & Grading says. At the other end, the company is still moving dirt, installing utilities and building roads.
The company wrote about the job on Sept. 8, 2026, and says its crews have been there since the first trees came down. Occupied houses, it says, change the work.
Haul routes have to account for the people who live there. Dust, noise and traffic control matter more. Utility tie-ins have to happen without cutting service to homes that are already on.
"The standard for a clean, well-run jobsite goes up, not down, as a community fills in," the company wrote.
Staying from the first phase to the last, the company says, means each new phase inherits what the crews already know about the soils, the drainage, the inspectors and what the builder expects.
The company thanked Meritage Homes for continuing to trust it with what comes next.
