Marks Clearing & Grading's Luis Sarria says safety comes down to four things

At Marks Clearing & Grading, safety can look like a conversation at the start of a shift. Or it can look like a stand-down that brings an entire pipe crew together to slow down and review a hazard.
Luis Sarria, the company's director of safety, says safety culture comes down to four things: accountability, communication, consistency, and looking out for each other. None of them, the company's post says, is paperwork. The Wendell company profiled Sarria on Sept. 15, 2026, at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Sarria started in the field and has more than 10 years in construction and safety, the company said.
Sarria works alongside superintendents, foremen and operators on the company's jobsites. One of those sites, Merritt Reserve in Rolesville, has hosted stand-downs, according to a separate company post.
The aim, the company says, is that everyone goes home.
